East Greenbush, NY – Richard L Bender, 89, of East Greenbush, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 9, 2022 at home surrounded by his family. Richard was a lifelong resident of East Greenbush.

He was the son of the late Leonard and Veronica Bender. Rich was a proud Navy veteran of the Korean War and then continued his public service as an Equipment Operator for the Town of East Greenbush DPW for over 30 years.

He loved coaching his sons in Little League and was an avid athlete and sports fan, especially for the NY Giants. He also enjoyed camping and picnics with his family, relaxing on the beach, and traveling with his wife.

Rich was a member and past Commander of the Melvin Roads American Legion Post 1231 and a member of VFW Post 7338.

Rich treasured his 62 year marriage to his devoted wife, Grace, and is survived by his six children: Richard (Carolyn) Bender Jr, Jeffrey Bender, Susan (John) Novak, Timothy Bender, Michael Bender, and Jennifer (Mark) Quail. He is also survived by his six grandchildren Lauren (Jason) Martin, Erica Bender, Madeline and Olivia Novak, Ethan and Deidre Quail, two great-grandchildren Cole and Caroline Martin, his sister Kathryn Bellinger, and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his brothers Kenneth, Edward, Andrew, and Wayne, and his sister Jean.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours 4-7 pm on Thursday, December 15th at the Rockefeller Funeral home, 165 Columbia Tpk Rensselaer. Friends and family are also invited to his funeral mass at 10 am at the Church of St Mary at Clinton Heights on Saturday, December 17th. Interment will follow at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Greenbush.

Bennington, VT – Adrien Francis “Bit” LaFlamme, 89 , passed away peacefully on December 13, 2022 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.

Adrien was born in Bennington, VT on May 18, 1933, the son of Theophile J. and Cedulie (LeClerc) LaFlamme. Adrien received his education at Sacred Heart School in Bennington and was a graduate of Bennington High School Class of 1952.

Adrien married the former, Joanne King on February 12, 1961 in Bennington. Joanne passed away on September 11, 2015.

He was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War. Adrien worked at CB Sports for many years before working at Nastech where he was a Team Tech on the assembly line.

He was a crossing guard for Sacred Heart School for many years, a position he loved, and the children loved having him there.

He was a former member of the Bennington Moose Lodge, the American legion and the V.F.W. He enjoyed playing cards and shooting darts and pool. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Adrien is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law; William and Lisa LaFlamme of Bennington, VT and Paul and Tammy LaFlamme, of Bennington, VT, his two special grandsons; Matheson (Dani Dunn) LaFlamme and Marcus (Sophia Clark) LaFlamme ; his sisters, Annette Rice of Bennington, VT, and Leona Smith of Petersburg, NY; his step-son-in-law, Steven Eggsware of Bennington and his step-daughter, Brenda Eggsware and her family. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brother, Father Julien LaFlamme.

Bennington, VT – Robert A Sausville Sr, 103, a longtime resident of Dewey Street in Bennington, passed away Sunday December 4, 2022, at Brookdale Fillmore Pond in Bennington surrounded by his family. Robert was born on August 5, 1919, in Bennington, one of eight children born to Charles A. and Delia (Boutin) Sausville. Robert received his education at Sacred Heart School and was a graduate of Bennington High Class of 1938. It was while at Bennington High when Robert met the love of his life, Geraldine T. Marra. The two were married on Easter Sunday, April 19, 1942. Geraldine passed away on February 1, 2015.

Robert enlisted in the Army Air Corps in April of 1941. He began his military career as an aircraft mechanic and was deployed as a flight engineer on the Northeast Submarine Patrol against the Germans in WWII. In 1942, Robert entered the pilot training program and would go on to fly 58 combat missions with the 32nd Bomber Group, 5th Army Air Corp over the southwest Pacific Ocean as a B-24 bomber pilot against the Japanese forces. Robert then served as a B-29 instructor for the Army Air Corps until 1945. Robert took a break from military service from 1945-1950 during which time he owned and operated the Bennington Airport.

In 1950 Robert returned to active duty as a member of the United States Air Force and was deployed overseas during the Korean War. Robert decided at that time to make a career out of his military service. Following his deployment with 4th Fighter Interceptor Wing in Korea, Robert came back to the U.S. and continued his distinguished Air Force career in research and development, testing new aircraft and weapons systems, until his official retirement from military service in 1969. In his over 28 years of service Robert was able to, as he put it, go from a “Private No Class” to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross during WWII along with the Airman’s Medal, an Air Force Commendation medal and over a dozen campaign ribbons.

Upon retirement from the Air Force, Robert returned to his hometown of Bennington and he and his wife Gerry purchased a new home on Dewey Street and started their antique clock retail and repair shop. Over the years they built up a substantial collection of antique clocks which adorned the house on Dewey Street. Throughout his life Robert had always had a passion for writing poetry. After years and years of “scratching out” his reflections on life, his children began saving his writings. After compiling a thorough collection Robert’s thoughts were published into a book, “Humorous Verse.” Many of the poems contained in the book were composed while at deer camp, fishing or just enjoying the outdoors which were Robert’s other passions.

Robert is survived by his children; Sharon (Gene) Bennett of Virginia Beach, VA, Robert A. (Mary) Sausville, Jr., of Clifton, VA and Peter C. (Debbie) Sausville of Clifton, VA. He leaves seven grandchildren; Christine Vall, Paul (Leslie) Howard, Stephen (Lindy) Howard, Peter (Geremi) Howard, Catherine (Gregory Scott Cochran) Sausville, Zachary (Emma) Sausville and Rachel Marie (Myke) Sausville, nine great-grandchildren; Jacob Vall, Molly Howard, Megan Howard, Allison Howard, Danielle Howard, Nicholas Howard, Daniel Howard, Marrok Sausville and Lia Grace Sausville. Additionally, he leaves many nieces and nephews and friends. In addition to his wife Geraldine, Robert was predeceased by his brothers; Charles, Clarence and Roland Sausville, his sisters; Margaret Munns, Irene Herrick, Leona Sausville and Rita Kearns, his granddaughter Lauren Grace Sausville, and his daughter-in-law, Sarah Jane Sausville.

The family of Robert Sausville, Sr., is eternally grateful to all the staff at Brookdale Filmore Pond and the Bayada Hospice team for their compassionate and loving care of our father.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 10:00 AM at the Mahar Funeral Home in Bennington. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. Friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home on Friday, December 9, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Danville, Ga – Andrew Wesley Brownlee, 88, of Stuckey Rd., passed away Friday at his residence.

Services will be held Monday November 21, 2022 at 2:00PM at Pleasant Plains Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Elder Garry Hall and Elder Stephen Dyar will officiate.

Mr. Brownlee was born in Thomaston, GA the son of the late Guy Hugh Brownlee and Essie Hay Brownlee. He was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.

Mr. Brownlee was retired from Armstrong World Industry. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War and was a member of Pleasant Plains Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Grace Coussons Brownlee. His children, John (Jennifer) Brownlee, Beth (Hal) Kerkhoff, Jason (Jackie) Brownlee, Stephen (Angel) Dyar, and Brian (Julie) Dyar. Grandchildren, Jessica (Scott) Huber. James (Tara) Brownlee, David Kerkhoff, Sage (Lance) Wallace, Mesa (Blake) Williamson, Cade Brownlee, Mackenzie Dyar, Alex Dyar, and Jacob Dyar. Four Great Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:00PM in the church before services.
